One of the scariest parts of shopping for baby products today? Just because you can buy it online doesn’t mean it meets U.S. safety standards. Third-party marketplaces have made it incredibly easy for baby products from all over the world to end up in our carts but our babies should not be the ones testing whether those products are safe. Products can be sold that don’t meet current U.S. safety standards, have inadequate warnings or instructions, or look almost identical to products from brands parents already trust. And as a parent, you shouldn’t need a degree in product safety to figure out whether something being marketed for your baby is actually safe. This is exactly why I say: Before you try, verify. Check the manufacturer. Check for recalls. Look for applicable safety standards and certifications. And remember: being available for purchase is NOT the same thing as being proven safe for your baby.
