Born William Wainwright in the London suburb of Palmers Green, Orbit got his start in the UK's dance world, recording with the groups Torch Song and Bassomatic before achieving international prominence for his production work on albums like Beth Orton's 'Superpinkymandy,' Madonna's 'Ray Of Light,' and Blur's '13.' Orbit released a dozen solo albums and scored a major UK hit of his own with a dance version of Samuel Barber's 'Adagio For Strings.' He also collaborated with acts including U2, Britney Spears, Pink, and All Saints, earning multiple Grammys. Orbit was 69.
