for everyone saying it doesn't distinguish whether the sex was consensual or not, you know what it does tell you? WHO. sometimes that's a big question. between being drugged, fragmented memories, or the assailent being masked or in the dark, this can ABSOLUTELY help. i know more women and men than i can count on my hand that have been assaulted and not reported it, and a third don't remember exactly who. most were children/teens at the time. that uncertainty definitely perturbs people from coming forward, as well as professional rape kits. i blacked out when i got a pap smear recently. a rape kit takes much longer, and all that to go through the same trauma twice within 24 hours without showering to preserve evidence. this kit gives people time to process and recover. these are brilliant, and i'm so happy they exist.

It makes absolutely no sense. That's not valid for proving rape in court because consensual sex also leaves traces of DNA.
