@tahini_dirtbag: BACK TO BASICS EP 4 - Whetstone Sharpening for beginners 🔪✨ I hope this can help a few people out, I tried to give many details/angles as possible. I'm definitely not an expert on sharpening, but this is how I personally maintain my knives with relatively little equipment. This stone is the Shapton pro 1000 which would be my baseline recommendation for anyone starting out!! The single strokes I do towards the end of the video are also my preferred method of honing my knife, rather than using a honing rod. Try and stretch out the times between when you do a full sharpening session to avoid removing too much material from your blade :) Also, I would recommend to practice this on a cheaper/ western knife (harder steel) before jumping into sharpening something made of softer metal :) #knive #sharpening #tutorial #knifesharpening #backtobasics
my dad taught me this and it's a good memory whenever I sharpen my knives using his old stone

Silicone guides help to get exactly 15 degrees. Mine came with one presumably very cheap to buy on its own

These instructions were simple and straightforward and I still managed to do things wrong because my knife is no sharper. 😅

Do you find any help using the “putting two quarters on the blade” trick to keep the angle or just using practice to keep the angle right?

I could watch you explaining things all day and night, even if I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Although I love cooking too, I'd happily demote myself to dishwasher just to enjoy the show 😂
