big mouth was one of those shows that had me thinking "adults well past puberty are going to get upset, even though they're not the target audience" and I was right. I had no problem with it because I'm not the demographic for it, but to all the people talking about "they showed kids private parts!!!" yeah, that's what puberty books do too. it's called providing visuals in education.

Big mouth perfectly nailed puberty education and we don't admit that enough... Preteens and teens don't want to watch a bunch of PSAs about contraception, drug usage, STDs, relationship planning, ect- so putting it in a show that doesn't feel like a show for preteens/teens was the smartest way they could have gotten that information across. Kids will always watch things they shouldn't and this show used that fact to its advantage. It originally aired when I was a teen and I sneakily watched it because I thought it was a show for adults- and it taught me a lot that has benefited me into my adulthood. People love to jump on the bandwagon and shit on things like this, but it's actively harm reduction.

i watched this when i was in middle school and it was so so so educational and important to me. and boys in my grade watched it too, which meant they were getting important knowledge about women without even realizing it and i think that’s EXTREMELY important and so substantial!!!
