WARNING: This video contains the harsh reality of what is washing up on our beaches. 🚨 Saturday at Lagoon Beach, Milnerton, we were met with scene after scene of disposable nappies scattered across the shoreline. Hundreds of them. Not 10. Not 20. HUNDREDS. Mixed in with seaweed and ocean debris were used nappies, floating in the surf, buried in the sand and lining the high tide mark. It was heartbreaking. And honestly? Infuriating. These nappies do not magically appear on our beaches. They are flushed down toilets. Dumped illegally. Washed through stormwater systems and rivers. Carried straight into our oceans. This is why campaigns like #BinItDontFlushIt matter so much. 🚽❌🌊 A toilet is NOT a bin. And while consumers absolutely need to take responsibility for disposing of nappies correctly, manufacturers also need to step up and acknowledge the growing environmental impact of their products. Because this problem is no longer small. If your products are consistently ending up in our oceans, rivers and on our beaches, then surely responsibility cannot fall ONLY on the public and volunteers cleaning them up? We need stronger education. We need better waste management. We need accountability. We need innovation. And most importantly — we need shared responsibility. Consumers AND producers. Because right now, volunteers are standing on beaches picking up the consequences by hand. 💔 On Saturday, our tiny team removed over 1 TONNE of litter from Lagoon Beach in just over an hour… and a huge portion of that was nappies alone. That should concern every single one of us. The ocean is not a dumping ground. Please dispose of nappies responsibly. Please educate your children. Please speak to your communities. And to manufacturers — please help us be part of the solution. Enough is enough. 🌍♻️ #saveafishie #savetheplanet #nonprofit #awareness
