We had an incident not to long ago where a grandparent did something to our daughter that upset us and her, when my husband reached out with a very polite and respectful text to explain why we were upset we were ignored for 2 days then met with a brief apology, an excuse for the behaviour then comments saying how hurt they were too and it’s disrespectful to reach out in text and not a phone call 🙃

so many people never learn to handle conflict like adults

Absolutely. Hiding information from a child’s parent is not going to build trust. We can tell when you’re lying or too defensive.

One of the last times my kids stayed with MIL they came home saying she made them go silent, not say a word and turn the tv off while her daughter called. She didn’t want her knowing our kids were there. When my husband asked her about it she flipped it and said we were raising tattle tale kids 🤣 I’d rather raise kids that tell me things than be the mom scared of her adult daughter!

They project, deflect and ultimately never take accountability. It hard to admit when you’ve done wrong. Especially when you think you know more and they should be listening to you.

Yes then suddenly I’m the one apologizing and the initial issue wasn’t really ever addressed.

what do you think of a mil constantly trying to be alone with their grandchild. never wanting the parents to be around & telling her son “go take ur wife on a date so i can be with the baby” just for the mil to use that time to disregard rules & do whatever she wants when parents aren’t around. it’s the constant excuse of go do something & leave him here with me that’s off.

My mil did something sneaky behind our backs while our kids were there for a sleepover. When my husband talked to her about it all she could do was focus on how he had “put a dark cloud over the nice time she just had” rather than take ownership of what happened. She dodged all accountability, then was clearly mad at us because she didn’t talk to us for a few weeks after. Then of course acted like it was water under the bridge. There’s not been anymore sleepovers at her house since despite her attempts to keep trying to make it happen
