I got myself in a situation in which I bought some high value VHS tapes from a yard sale. This particular sale was many items from different family members. Unfortunately I did not smell the VHS. The other items I bought had no smell but the VHS smelled like grandpa smoked next to them for 20 years. I wrote “SMELLS” in the title and then explained in the discription. I wrapped each one in multiple zip lock bags to not get my other items stinky. Each buyer I messaged “just making sure you read the description”. All of the buyers told me they were smokers and all of the buyers were wonderful and one of them is now a repeat buyer. It’s definitely an extra step but worth it.

I do it any time i sell something with notable damage even if it’s in the title, i never understand the people who refuse to because it just causes a headache when you can wait for someone who will be happy with it. Have had customers apologize and ask to cancel because they missed the damage and plenty of others say they saw and don’t care! Has saved me hundreds long term

I have been buying/selling on eBay since 2002. When something has a flaw in it and listing on eBay I always put IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS EXACTLY WHAT IS DAMAGED and if they can’t see it then I believe that is there fault for not reading. Also put in title in caps ** PLEASE READ** that way you cover all the bases on your end. There are difficult buyers on eBay and sometimes you need to buy eliminate them out like bad employees

allow returns on everything but buyer pays return shipping. then tell them to return the item for a full refund. most won't pay the return label

I had a sweater with tiny moth holes on the shoulder. it was disclosed in the title, in the photos and in the description. got a return on poshmark and the case got approved right away I didn't even have the chance to reply - freaking annoying they used to be great about that stuff I dont understand why we pay 20% in fees... I wish it was on ebay though because I'm top rated plus and I talked to multiple reps over at ebay that say I can use my 50% deduction for anything I want including false INADs. so whenever I have a case like this I report the buyer for false INAD and only refund 50%. it was all in the listing ya jerk! and I have free returns so like generally idc but when you go messing up my stats because you didnt pay attention I get pissed. my poshmark was practically dead for a week after that return. metrics affect your sales and it sucks when buyers are like this

i sold a discontinued spf item that still was had about 1 year left on the sell by date for 40X what i paid for it. i sold it in 2 hours after posting and canceled the order because they had zero purchase and new to ebay .i knew this item was great so i didn’t want to get scammed. they assured me and sold it to them and found more and sold more to them.

I add this to every one of my listings after my description. Have won 3 out of 3 cases between 2025 and 2026 with this and i believe that it prevents shitty buyers too.
