I think the saddest part is going back and realising everyone is still exactly still the same, the growth for you has been huge, the experiences unmatched and you sort of feel like you have shifted to a different level and struggle to relate as much as you used to.

To start over again in a different place where nobody knows you, it seems impossible for many people. For example, most people in my country, they don't even have any experience on a plane yet and some don't even have a passport or speak English language

At 39 went from Canada to Australia. Post-divorce; post-losing my job; post-losing my home … and now, almost 7 years later, my Aussie life is beyond what I could have imagined. But the hurdles in those first few years here tested me in unfathomable ways. This video really resonated with me ♥️

I’ve done it twice and it was as hard the second time as it was the first time around it breaks you to pieces and you have to rebuild yourself from scratch

I lost my whole family just like that. Siblings, parents, cousins everyone has moved on. I am not a part of anything but scheduled Happy birthdays by 2-3 people. Went back twice to find that everything has changed. Being brown - I am told this cannot be my home while that what I called home is in a time which is loooong gone. No birthdays, no weddings, nothing. No amount of money can fill that void. On top of that being told - Go back to your country EVERYDAY(!!!) is just salt on your wounds.

i think many want to leave family and toxic burdens behind to find themselves though... that isnt the hard part. this is the best step to take to truly put urself first before family obligations that can hinder and bipass many peoples boundaries. i think its great... and strong is an understatement. i havent been able to do that yet but i 1000000% agree with this experinence.

moving to a different country usually sets you back. you give up rights, access to resources, and there is a language barrier. often, your are in a visa that restricts you to one job, if you are allowed to work at all. you see the country from the bottom, low income class. I often say that to people who say "yes I also travel much". no. traveling is the opposite - you spend more money on a place, treat yourself, and only have good moments. People who have emigrated to another country and are able to deal with all the downsides, aka immigrants, are more resilient than anyone else.

also in another story, you come back home and nobody has moved on, groups shrinkes and no more inside jokes etc, expat life is a choice, life back home is not your only option
