@checkenginechuckllc: Replying to @waskly I missed you. Here’s how bench testing allowed me to make sure I’m providing a proper estimate for the proper #repair #benchtesting #pcm #dodgecharger #mobilemechanic
bench testing had helped and saved me multiple times and helps ease a theory that is building in your head.

I’m saving up to bench test valve bodies, tcms, and entire units before and after a repair. I can have confirmation before installation. Bench testing is an awesome thing!👍

if the horn doesn't work and it's literally right there.... the first thing I'm doing is pulling it and bench testing it.

Bench testing has its place in diagnostic work. For the average auto technician bench testing isn’t gonna be super necessary.

I always hated not given the time to bench test something when all other tests are done and only thing left is to just replace with a known good part. sometimes it really was that bad component but I would never know why lol

I bench test starters heck even brand new thermostats because of how many brand new parts are junk that 5 minutes of testing can save hours of work

If your able to test and prove if only to yourself that what you think is the issue then that will always be a good thing. 💯

I’ve bench test modules all the time to see if I can read them on my laptop. I have a breakout connector in comparison to what you do with your terminals on your pins but absolutely bench testing is something I do on my diagnostics if it calls for it.

Can you elaborate why this is a bad TCM? I’m curious on your reasoning. Does the PCM directly get the brake signal and then deactivate the shift lock and such?

I'm definitely for bench testing everything if you got a bad PCM I mean 1200 for a car that's really only worth probably about 5 grand you know what I'm saying if it'll fix it I'm sure they probably do it you know for sure that it's something internal on the PCM then it's like yeah we could get it fixed it just rolls out all the wiring problems and everything you know the PCM is good it might have a bad wire

at the shop I don't bench test. it's not economical, just swap the part. at home or on my own, I prefer to bench test everything. I want to make sure I fully understand what doesn't doesn't work, I want to know that I'm correct and swapping apart before spending money, and sometimes things fail in a way that I can repair. deep circuitry diagnostics usually doesn't pay but sometimes it's pretty clear you got a bad cap and a blown bleed down resistor next to a fet.

Anyone saying bench testing is never needed doesn’t know how to use a power supply/bench test.

Comments mean fuck all man. I’m pretty sure I’ve had 100s off cars sent in for a new ecu. All because of a missing 5v reference code. I’ll let you guess how many times it was the issue

Chuck, MOST people that follow you are here for your informative content. Dont let dummies question your ability. If someone asks a question about what you did, or why you did it, answer, and if you want to show us the bench test, def do so, cus a lot of us wanna see that. But no need to explain yourself to someone who(regardless)probably couldn't understand it either way.
