In Chapter 1, Mira braids her hair into a crown before Violet crosses the parapet, and it becomes Violet’s signature look throughout the book. Xaden also makes it very clear how much he loves her hair: “I f**king love your hair. If you ever want to bring me to my knees or win an argument, just let it down. I’ll get the point.” (Fourth Wing | Chp. 32) In Chapter 1 of Iron Flame, Violet is once again described wearing her signature coronet braid. But by Onyx Storm, we start seeing a shift. In the prologue, she’s described w a loosened braid, and throughout the book her hair is down or more loosely styled much more often. Part of that is practical as she’s constantly being thrown into battle, but I also wonder if it’s symbolic. The stronger and more confident Violet becomes, the less she feels the need to wear what she once considered her most protective, least vulnerable hairstyle. By Book 5, I wouldn’t be surprised if wearing her hair down becomes her new norm. Have you guys noticed this progression too?
