So instead of saying “food borne illness just happens” what Luke is trying to say is we do not spend enough to ensure the safety of our food. I’m 33 and I can remember food illness happening every few years basically. And the point he’s trying to make is the Trump admin CUT money/regulations to the food safety programs rather then increasing it like we obviously need to do. When an outbreak happens the response should not be “well it just happens” it needs to be well what do we do next time to ensure this doesn’t happen? And the answer is going to always be spend and regulate more, because man power is how fucking fix problems and there is no way around that
