@pbsnews: A new program in Charlotte, North Carolina, that aims to tackle loneliness and social isolation requires a prescription for art instead of medicine. Paul Solman has the story for our series at the intersection of art and health, part of our CANVAS coverage. #pbsnews #pbsnewshour #newshour #news #art #loneliness #northcarolina
I used to be the most social and outgoing person, I used to host parties, BBQs and game nights. After going through some heavy and consecutive traumatic experiences I no longer had any desire to do those things or leave my house. It is a seriously difficult place to be, I started taking art classes at my local college and it was so helpful and transformative to my healing journey.

I’m very lonely. It feels like no one cares. Most people have a partner, parent, children, and it’s beyond their level of comprehension what my life is like. I’m genuinely happy that these people found a support system.

I’m so glad she found this program and it’s helping her deal with the grief of losing 4 relatives in such a short amount of time.

When I was getting divorced, after I got sick of grieving, I realized my soul was reaching for art.

Museums need support now more than ever — and supported museums support the community back!! Most museum professionals, myself included, desperately want our institutions to be places of connection and healing. Visit museums, talk to staff members, and take advantage of free events and outings! I met my closest friends in these spaces, found ease, peace, and joy in these spaces, and gained access to free/affordable events that have made a lasting impression on my life. So happy to see some media coverage on this subject!
