So them telling you do that with no guidance upsets me. You can’t just go from slow feeds all day long to a massive amount in one go. As the stomach needs time to stretch and get to that point of holding the volume needed. First let out any air in his belly. Slowly work your way up to the amount. I’d even check for gas build up as you do the feed using gravity. As some babies produce a lot of gas. You can FaceTime me as I am a nurse but more importantly I helped transition two babies in my car as a home health nurse from the pump to syringe feeds and it’s so much more than I can really comment.

Syringe feeds are way worse than pump. I have 2 gtube dependent kids. One has a pump set to 150ml/hr and the other 120ml/hr. They no longer throw up.

We’ve switched from pump to bolus and doing it too fast will make my child vomit. We try to do a rate of 1ml every 2 seconds, so 2 mins per syringe, but some kids might need longer. The stomach needs time to stretch. We also sometimes try to make sure her stomach is empty before feeds by seeing how much we can pull back in the tube. We also make her food THICK. Like, pudding thick and it helps keep her food down

My son is 5 and tube fed. He gets pump feeds for 60 minutes. He needs to sit up for 30 minutes after. Maybe try to lengthen the feeds and keep him completely upright. Also, is he on an acid reflux medication? I completely understand being burnt out. You are not alone

We had two appts two hours away yesterday. Everything went fabulously (like 20 minutes each) and yet my anxiety in preparing taking all of his equipment and anticipating the worst wiped me out.

We do 500mls over 2 hours and only can do 2 feeds a day because she gets sick if we go to fast and add to much food but if we don’t do 3 feeds she isn’t getting enough per doctors orders so if we give her 3 feeds she isn’t getting enough puking like crazy and she constantly constipated so I’m at a loss it’s ridiculous just do what works best for your baby! You go this

If you wanna do bolus feeds, you could still use the pump and just put them in faster just not at gravity just over 30 minutes and see if that helps

How much did you push over what amount of time? Oh my we’ve tried all the things! Gravity feeds, hand pushing syringes, and feeding with a pump up to 1.5 hrs.

We push 10ml every few mins. Also try venting prior to feed to see if it’ll help!

Nurse here and medical mom. Is the temp too cold, is he at a 45° angle, did you push it or allow gravity to take effect? Elevated Upper Body: Sit upright or raise the head of the bed to a 30 to 45-degree angle during the feed.Post-Feed Rest: Stay elevated for 30 to 60 minutes (or up to 2 hours) after the feed finishes.Gravity Assistance: Keeping the upper body high uses gravity to pull the formula down into the digestive tract.

Can I ask what you’re feeding? :) my son threw up on EVERY formula; even the cleanest and hypoallergenic options. Switched DMEs 3 times trying to find one that worked. We finally switched to Real Food Blends and it’s been LIFE changing. Lots of people recommend home blending but with my own health issues and our lifestyle RFB has been amazing.

syringe feeding is faster then the pump, are you venting before trying to feed? my son has issues with digestion and never tolerated the milk but blended food he is able to tolerate. it's been a long slog but he's now up to 60ml syringes pushed every half an hour for two hours.

We have to burp out all the air. Speed isn’t really an issue but air is and our girl was volume sensitive so when we got her on nourish peptide blended diet, that helped a lot. High calorie so less volume and easier to get air out. Our girl just swallows a lot of air and it’s nothing we can do about it but preventing puking is always about getting air out before a feed, during and vigilant after in case she needs to get some out. Hope it helps.

Meeee. We have been trying to figure out my son’s GI issues he’s had mushy poop for over 6M and now we’re going for a second opinion. My son’s 3. We use to do syringe fees before he had his heart repair and it may be the speed because it can definitely make them sick.

My baby was born 5 weeks ago with a chronic kidney condition we had no idea about until after birth. This has been his first full week home from the hospital and I’ve had 2 specialists visits and I’m learning to navigate the NG tube feeds. I’m already feeling burnt out 🥴
