I really don’t understand the reason he or whoever decided to change his mechanics and opt for the longer arm motion. It makes no sense to me, you introduce timing issues and injury risk if your arm is lagging behind because that puts stress on your shoulder and elbow. Maybe they were chasing more movement with the fastball but now his secondary stuff is statistically at the bottom of the league when it was in the 99th percentile. I’d be reverting back immediately. Heck Emerson Hancock started pitching like Chris Sale during the season last year so it can be done.

Very much can relate to this heavy. Went to Juco as a Catcher/closer and after getting hurt I hung up the bat and became a PO. When I was catching all the time, my arm slot was consistent and I never had to think about it. Became a PO and the first guy out the pen for everything my mechanics because crazy, got in my head and became super erratic. One game I’m on point and go 3-4 innings to finish the game and the next I barely make it out the inning. Took my a solid year to get back to that consistency because I stopped doing all the PO stuff exclusively and started catching pens and doing stuff with the catchers rather than just shag all the time and it cleaned everything up for me

I’m no pro pitching coach but comparing his 24 mechanics to 26 it seems hanging his arm out further is slowing his rotation speed just like when sitting on a spinning chair if you extend the chair spins slower than when you are compact. Because of the slower rotation that could lead to the slower fastball and maybe also lead to other mechanical changes for his secondary pitches

wonder if there’s anything else causing him to be this way. I have hope he’ll find his footing end of this year or start of next.
