@lcnmafiahistory: The relationship between Donnie Brasco (FBI agent Joseph Pistone) and Dominick “Sonny Black” Napolitano was one of deep professional trust and personal mentorship, which ultimately ended in tragedy for Napolitano. After rising to caporegime in the Bonanno crime family, Sonny Black took Brasco under his wing, bypassing lower-level soldiers to give him significant operational responsibility, including running a lucrative operation in Florida. Impressed by Brasco’s reliability, earning power, and quiet competence, Sonny Black became his ultimate sponsor, fiercely backing him for formal initiation into the Mafia as a “made man.” This bond created some psychological tension for Pistone, who respected Napolitano’s leadership but knew that his own undercover success sealed the mobster’s fate; when the FBI abruptly pulled Pistone out and revealed his true identity in 1981, the Bonanno leadership held Napolitano directly responsible for allowing an agent to breach their inner circle, resulting in him 💀 shortly after. #DonnieBrasco #SonnyBlack #MafiaHistory #TrueCrime #UndercoverFBI
