I ran a hotel for 13 years and you are correct. Most brands (HIE, Hilton etc) require this at least once a week. Not just to look for broken/unsanitary conditions, but also to check for insects and any other maintenance issues that can occur from daily wear and tear. Also they are NOT allowed by most brands to touch personal belongings. Hope this helps for those curious.

Can you come live at my hotel! I work extended stay hotel as the GM and I wish all guest were like you! You don’t know how many times guest come yelling that their bed was not changed but yet all their clothes and everything under the sun is left on the bed.

As a housekeeper, we are legally not allowed to make beds if there are items on the bed. People will say we stole stuff on top of the bed if it was moved slightly . Rather just avoid it all together

Thank you thank you THANK YOU. The number of long term stays that would get so mad that either housekeeping had to go in at all or they didn’t do enough because their personal items were all over the room OR they had their personal items all over and the wrong thing got thrown out

yes as housekeepers we r actually not allowed to move personal items, if we come into vacuum we have to move around ur stuff, the same with cleaning and making the bed. but due to that if ur stuff is on the bed we can straighten it up but as we aren’t allowed to move ur items we cant change the sheets. u may not mind or even consider this as an issue but it’s apart of our training and due to others having a hissy fit we stick to these rules x

Yeah we aren't allowed to touch stuff, we can get fired. I remember I did a stayover clean once and the room had 2 single beds, 1 of the bed was full of the guest stuff so I couldn't do it, I genuinely felt so bad to only change one bed, but I don't want to loose my job

my hotel doesn't check on us anymore they just ask when we come in to pay if there's anything that needs to be checked

We were in an extended stay hotel for about a year. We did the same. They literally just restocked tissues, gave new linen and made sure we didn’t break anything. We had our own cleaning supplies and cleaned like it was an actual home

lived in a hotel for 2.5 years. they never visited my room but I knew housekeeping and I was always cleaning my room at least every week. door open, laundry outside, trash out, plants outside for sun and the scent of cleaning chemicals coming strongly from my room.
