Twenty years at this checkpoint and I've watched that math play out at the door more times than I could count. It isn't personal. They know the seats sold, they know the bin space, and they know the last groups to board run out of room. That announcement asking for volunteers isn't a surprise to them, it's a number they saw coming. So board in the earliest group you're entitled to.
