In med school, I tracked my grades so I know how to recalibrate my studying all the time. When I’m getting bad scores from a subject, I give it more time. Yes, I was grade conscious because I hated the idea of failing. Failing meant I won’t graduate on time, my family would pay another year of tuition, rent, and allowance. I just can’t afford it. I took care of myself throughout med school. I made sure I was healthy. I eat and sleep on time when possible. I love breakfast, it’s my favorite meal and it’s the most important for me. One thing I failed to do that I should have is working out. I did not exercise a lot. Now I’m a doctor and I have a lenient schedule moonlighting, I catch up on my physical movement. The effects of working out has been profound on my mood and cognition. I tried to find routines that work for me. I don’t beat myself up when I fail to stick to the routine. I just try again the next day. I write a Substack newsletter I call Progress Prescription. It’s my yapping of all the things I did in my life - premed, failing to get into med school the first time, study strategies, mindset, motivation, productivity. It’s my brain child.
