@healingbythenumbers_: If your partner makes you feel incompetent at looking up gas stations on your phone... that’s abuse. Follow for more episodes like this. s#AbuseRecovery #EmotionalAbuse #CoerciveControl #ThatWasAbuse #IntheCar
I just read about “urgency abuse.” You are meant to drop everything and meet their needs immediately; it’s never fast enough. Your time is not respected in the same way.

Urgency abuse. They do it to put you into fight or flight so you can’t push back. So stressful.

Mine would do this same urgency thing at any check out at the store. I genuinely began to have anxiety around checking out after shopping. I remember being anxious and scared the first many times I went shopping with my now loving husband. And he never acted any type of way. I also remember being so anxious and scared when my ex was coming home from work. He always took his day out on me, and god forbid I was sitting down or relaxing when he walked in the door (not to mention my chronic illnesses that physically made me need to rest sometimes.) he conditioned me to know that because he came home at 4pm, I needed to be standing up. I needed to be cleaning something. I needed to be busy. When my husband and I started dating, I would be filled with fear for months around the time he would come home from work, ready to be berated and abused like I was before. And it never happened. He comes home, he hugs me, he kisses me. He tells me how much he missed me. And it still took months before one day I was sitting when he came home. And I was still terrified even though I knew nothing bad was going to happen. I still struggle to this day with these feelings

My ex once screamed at me "God damn it, Dani" with my 13yr old cousin in the car because I forgot MY phone charger and HIS phone was low battery. He spun the car around, nearly going into the ditch in the neighborhood to go back and grab a charger. Her little voice when he stormed inside "Why is he being so mean to you?" stuck with me, and withen 3 months I left him. After 6.5 years together, 1 year married.

This is so validating. I felt crazy when this happened to me. Mine would say things like “ it’s common sense “ and nothing I ever did was good enough. Particularly, smart enough.

a normal person would watch this an laugh.. but if you know, you know.. and if you have ever experienced this, you're not laughing. I have a panic attack everytime someone ask me to pull up Google maps.

When I hear you share the story, feels clear it’s abuse. Realizing that was my childhood with my mother….a little harder to accept

mine would ask me to drive then scream about my driving over and over.
when I met my guy I was terrified when he asked me to drive.
the whole time he chatted and smiled.
when we got to where we were going he commented on how calm and aware I was when driving.
it was never me.

My ex would just ask me to look something up while he was fully capable, then he wouldn’t believe me when I told him the result, then looked it up himself to validate the result i got. Yeah that does make a person insecure in the long run

I would instantly go dumb because my brain was in panic mode trying to not get him upset. I thought it was just me. Thank you for this.

"Most of these moments don't sound extreme. That's the point". Yup they just wear you down slowly over time and bleed you from a million little cuts.

it's hard to recognize when you're in it. its like being boiled alive, but the temperature increases to slowly to be obvious. once you've acclimated to the heat its increased.

I was so terrified to make a mistake navigating, even after my abusive relationship ended it stayed with me. As a passenger navigator with a good friend, we missed our exit, and i burst into tears. it takes so long for that to leave our bodies and hearts

my soon to be ex husband of over 20 years got mad at me for missing an exit on the highway. He began stopping short on the highway, screeched to side of highway, took a large stanley cup and proceeded to throw it at me. I was 3 days post op. we were in the car driving back from icu visiting my 80 yo father who had a massive heart attack.

my ex had me convinced i was incapable of handling anything. i'll never forget the look of surprise on his face when i told him all the steps i undertook while planning to leave him / the country. proved to myself i can do anything, now to just remember that day to day!!

My bf did this ONCE and I got angry as fuck. Told him to never bother me with this bs again and to do it himself. He's been real calm since.
