Or my favourite is for them to give up. A smile on their face as if they finally have peace, letting them realise that fighting was never going to work but suffering to fate would. Something like - “There she was, Sage, gripping her sword wedged into the muddy path, ready to finish what the emperor had started, where he refused to own up and fix it before it came to this. She pulled herself up and drew her sword in finality. ‘This is the end.’ She states, her unwavering stubbornness to yearn for peace shrouded her judgement. The rebels sneered “even standing on your own you refuse to back down? Even you must know our leader will be the greatest compared to that lazy snob you call the emperor.’ They snorted, the leader stepped forward and stated her down. Woman to Woman, she asks ‘Will you yield?’ Sage shook her head ‘never.’ The leader sighed ‘you are a great warrior. What a shame.’ The leader, quick as ever swung her own sword. Sage could not block and an intense pain pulsed through her. It was only a moment of pain, Sage did not understand why it wasn’t hurting, why it felt okay to surrender to it. To let herself be pulled into what seemed to be a peaceful place. ‘…oh…’ she whispered ‘it does not hurt…’ she touched the wound to her chest as she slowly swayed to the floor. And for once in her life, Sage did not need to fight, she did not need to obey orders or carry out tasks. She simply stared at the vast sky and laughed to herself ‘…it’s easy to be at peace… I should have realised earlier.’ The leader said nothing, just watching from a far as Sage found her peace. Sage closed her eyes slowly, knowing she would not open them again if she surrendered to it. But she didn’t care, she smiled and finally let herself be pulled into eternal darkness.
