This is a vintage glass insulin syringe a reusable 1cc B-D Yale syringe from a time when diabetes care looked very different than it does today. Before insulin pens, pumps, and disposable supplies, people had to use glass syringes like this one, carefully sterilizing them over and over again just to stay alive. It’s made for U-40 insulin, which isn’t even the standard anymore, and it originally required a separate needle attachment. For me, as a Type 1 diabetic mom, this isn’t just an old medical tool it’s a time capsule. It represents an era where managing diabetes took so much more effort, precision, and resilience. There were no continuous glucose monitors, no apps, no alerts in the middle of the night just routine, guesswork, and grit. Holding something like this really puts into perspective how far we’ve come. And at the same time, it reminds me why I care so deeply about advocacy, education, and sharing our journey. Because while this may be vintage the reality is diabetes is still relentless. The tools have changed, but the strength it takes hasn’t.
