Mandan police responded to a home on South Frontier Trail at approximately 5:42 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report that three very young children had been seriously injured in an assault. Officers arrested 22-year-old Kailey Erhart at the scene. During a news conference Friday morning, Mandan Police Chief Jason Ziegler confirmed that a 5-month-old baby and a 3-year-old child had died. A 1-year-old toddler survived and is being treated at a hospital. According to Ziegler, Erhart had locked herself inside the home and threatened to kill the children. The children’s father was reportedly inside the home at the time of the incident. Before Friday’s news conference, information circulating on social media claimed the children had suffered injuries to their throats and that the attack may have occurred outside or in a public area. Those specific details have not been confirmed by authorities in the information released so far.
