Things I saw on tour with @Rabbie’s (gifted), You can use my code JACK10 for 10% off any Rabbies tour! 🔗 on my profile 🫶🏽 spending 4 days discovering Scotland’s castles, history, battlefields, lore (and whisky). I have a penchant for dark history, lore and legends so these are some of the things that especially stood out to me! On this tour we visited Falkland (outlander filming sites), Falkland Palace (a favorite of Mary Queen of Scots), St Andrews, Dunnottar Castle, Castle Fraser, Crathes Castle, Fyvie Castle, Culloden battlefield, Blair Castle and more! For those interested here is more about the Fyvie Castle weeping stone curse: In the 13th century, the well known seer Thomas the Rhymer is said to have arrived during a wild and stormy night, seeking shelter. Expecting warmth and hospitality, he was instead turned away when the gate was slammed shut. Angered by this treatment, Thomas placed a curse on the castle, claiming that its destiny and its heirs would be tied to three sacred stones taken from a nearby church. One was hidden in the tallest tower, another in the lady’s bower, and the third beneath the water gate. Until all three stones were reunited, Fyvie Castle would experience troubled inheritance and hardship for those who lived there. Only one of these Weeping Stones has ever been found. It is displayed in the charter room and is known to appear strangely damp at times, as if grieving its separation from the others. Even if the stone from the tower could be retrieved, the final one lies lost beneath the River Ythan. The curse is said to have come true, as the castle has passed through the hands of several noble families, and many unfortunate young passings of its heirs #scottishhistory #historytok #scotlandtravel #History #castle #medievaltiktok
