As a litigator, I can tell you that the writing of wills (or trusts, or contracts, etc.) is often not viewed as the hard part because that’s not the moment when the document is being challenged. Still, there are very difficult drafting circumstances, and three clients is not representative. I’ve done three or more easy criminal cases (easier than some estate plans), but I know there’s more to the practice than just my experience. I wouldn’t try to talk authoritatively about something I’ve only dabbled in.

Mind you, trust & estate lawyers also have the most malpractice claims against them. Just need one disgruntled friend/relative/neighbor who wants more than they got and they’ll come for you trying to get the will invalidated

As an attorney who handles many will contests, this is sad to see. A properly constructed will (or trust) is worth its weight 100x over and often saves clients hundreds of thousands in the long run in future protections depending on the circumstances.

Because in most states all you need is a witness and it’s legal. Must include all children in some form. For example grandma can’t entirely leave out aunt Betty bc she doesn’t like her bc it leaves it open to being contested; she must leave her $1. All wills still have to be presented to county probate judge for a certificate to be provided to executor regardless. The fastest and cheapest way to settle an estate is add names to the titles deeds bank account so there’s no probate hold up or estate tax.

They pay you for your knowledge , not your time . Your knowledge and skill set has value , and you take risks of potential malpractice and bar grievances , that few other professions deal with . Wills can make a ton of difference to resolve matters down the road . And , your videos are great .

I love seeing this. AI helped me represent myself and beat a billionaires team of Counsels. However, I was able to obtain case law very pertinent regarding my case and received a settlement but had to sign an NDA that I obliterated them.
