Turn right on red is not allowed everywhere here so have to be careful. Cities like NYC don’t allow it.

But you have to stop at a four way stop sign regardless of if anybody is there . A roundabout you drive straight through . Roundabouts were proven to be way more efficient on myth busters.

We also tend to treat down traffic lights (if the power is out) as four way stops. At least all the places I've lived in Michigan.

4 way stops in Oz = roundabout. We give way to the right, that's what dictates who goes first. Brissy trialled turn left on a red, but for some reason they discontinued it.

You made such a good point. I never thought of the benefit of familiarity with four-way stops to apply to when the stoplight are broken. And you are absolutely right, Americans go straight into four-way stop etiquette. I didn’t realize other places didn’t do that.

They did trial turning left on the red in some places here in Brisbane but they scrapped it for some reason. Could be cause Qlders are wild drivers lol 😆

What America have YOU been to?!?!?! NO ONE here knows how a 4-way stop is supposed to work and while the law in most states IS that an intersection with a malfunctioning traffic light is supposed to be treated as a 4-way stop, the reality is that you have to proceed with extreme caution because it’s hit or miss as to whether people are actually going to stop or just fly right through the intersection…

I think round-abouts are dangerous. we have one in the main street and most treat it as if I'm on the main street part I can just fly through, tuff if someone's part way in the round-about from one of the other side streets. I don't know how many times I've been in the round-about and had a 4x4 or truck fly in and I've had to break hard so they didn't clean me up. There is a traffic light stop in Echuca where you can turn left on a red light.
