@coloring.the.dark: One veteran put it simply: "We were known to only go one direction, straight ahead until the job was done." That mindset can accomplish incredible things in the military. You keep moving when you're exhausted. You finish what needs to be finished. You put the mission ahead of yourself. Then you come home and discover that the same mindset does not always know when to stand down. Rest can feel uncomfortable. Slowing down can feel like failure. Asking someone else to carry part of the load can feel completely foreign. Maybe part of coming home is learning that stopping does not mean quitting. enlisted sept 30 1987 , retired Jan 1 2024 , many humanitarian mission, many many combat deployments, hundreds of airborne jumps from static line to MFF (military freefall) and the loss of over 40 brothers in combat and unfortunately by thier own hand. im lost with no purpose my identity seems gone but I keep pushing forward. so I cry in the shower and scream in my truck. I have to keep going for those who didn't make back...AATW

this is why so many of us have anger issues. for me, it was the 1 emotion that would allow me to keep functioning, through the hurt, exhaustion, pain, depression- anger was easy. now...how do I not be angry?

I saw a video of some American heroes today, they were all out west fighting forest fires. There were no military there. I hope they all stay safe on their base. Just my opinion.
