I practice self analysis and self reflection as I age and believe to be doing well however BETRAYAL still surprises me and gets the best of me...It amazes me watching myself loose control! Ps I appreciate your wisdom! Peace!

i spent years thinking that if i just stayed quiet and agreeable, people would eventually respect me for being easy to be around. what i actually got was invisibility wearing a friendly face. the thing nobody tells you is that passivity isn't restraint, it's just fear doing the talking, and everyone can feel the difference. you're not being considerate, you're being unable to decide what you actually want, which is a different animal entirely. a friend mentioned this book called The Improvised Man by Marcus Hale and there's something in it about how the version of yourself you run on autopilot to keep the peace is never the version that commands actual respect. respect doesn't come from being flexible. it comes from knowing what you stand on and being willing to be wrong about it openly instead of being right about nothing in private. the moment i started actually deciding things and being willing to defend them, people stopped treating me like background furniture. turned out the respect i was chasing the whole time required me to be willing to lose it first.
