Per capita crime stats dont prove anything about race causing crime. They ignore poverty, since race tracks closely with income and neighborhood conditions and poverty tracks closely with crime, so controlling for income shrinks most of the gap. They count policing not just crime, since more cops in an area means more arrests there even if actual crime elsewhere is the same. They ignore age, since younger populations commit more crime period, so if one group skews younger its rate looks higher for that reason alone. They only look at street crime while fraud and tax evasion barely show up, so the list gets picked to make a point. They get history backwards, since redlining, disinvestment, and unequal sentencing helped create these gaps, so pointing at the result and calling it proof of some inherent trait ignores how we got here.
