So you entered into a legally binding contract, with the agency of the company. Paid a deposit based on that agreement. Sounds like you should consult a lawyer; because they are now in breach of contract.

RU..Serious :
A verbal deal backed by text messages agreeing to a price and supported by a deposit is generally considered a legally valid and binding contract in Canada, as it fulfills the core requirements of an offer, acceptance, and consideration (an exchange of value).

That's not normal but I was a part of a similar situation. Working on a deal with a customer who has poor credit. We were selling a truck with $2,500 of mark up. The bank required a $1,200 bank fee to give him a loan. So, now only $1,300 mark up..The issue is we had it in the body shop for scratches that cost $2,200. But... the manager that was in charge of reconditioned hadn't put in the charges yet. So, the manager doing the deal, didn't know the charges. Before the guy had come in, they finally put it together. Said they couldn't lose $1,300 on the deal, then raised the price up $1,000 to help make up some of the loss of revenue. Deal stopped.
