It advocates for political freedoms, democratic institutions, human rights, an independent judiciary, and a more European-oriented model of development for Russia. In recent years, the party has also consistently called for an end to the war and a peaceful resolution. On August 10, Russia’s Supreme Court revoked Yabloko’s registration for the upcoming State Duma elections. The lawsuit was filed by the Rodina party on August 7, while Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office and representatives of the Central Election Commission supported the plaintiff’s position. The court considered several alleged violations of election law, including: • the use of materials that, according to the plaintiffs, did not have the necessary rights or permissions; • images created with the help of ChatGPT; • photographs and other materials; • alleged violations involving campaign financing; • and several other issues related to Yabloko’s election campaign. Yabloko rejected all of the allegations and announced that it would appeal the court’s decision. Formally, the party was removed from the election not because of its anti-war position, but because of the legal claims outlined above. However, Yabloko representatives and some independent media outlets view the decision within a broader political context. As of now, Yabloko’s candidates will not be able to participate in the State Duma elections through the party’s federal list unless the decision is overturned on appeal.
