Because Trader Joe’s is my emotional support store. 😂 I’m serious. When I’m having a dark day, one of the things I’ve learned about myself is that isolating isn’t what I need… even when that’s what I want. Sometimes I need to change the energy I’m around. And Trader Joe’s is one of my favorite places to do that. The employees are friendly and happy. People talk to each other. Someone is excited about the new seasonal snack. (Me. I’m the someone) The person ringing up my groceries wants to know what I’m doing tonight. There is LIFE happening around me. And here’s something I don’t think we talk about enough when we talk about being an empath: We’re not only affected by difficult energy. I can be deeply affected by joy, warmth, laughter, kindness, music, movement, beauty, and people who genuinely seem happy to be where they are. Today mattered because I’m grieving. My uncle died, and I’ve been carrying my own sadness while also feeling a lot when I’m talking with my cousins and sister and mom. So today, I went to my emotional support store. Not to pretend I wasn’t sad or to bypass grief with positivity. I did normal stuff. I bought groceries. I checked my eggs. And I let myself be around some happy humans for a little while. Sometimes caring for myself as an empath looks exactly this ordinary. And that’s why I’m creating this series. Not to give you another list of “signs you’re an empath.” I want to show you the real stuff. The beautiful. The inconvenient. The heartbreaking. The completely ridiculous.
