Hey! Cat groomer here. I see a lot of people are telling you NOT to use that type of rake, but nobody is giving information on what TO use. The best tools for grooming a medium or long haired kitty is a greyhound comb, and a face and feet comb for the shorter bits of fur. It will get down to the skin, prevent, and remove matting at beginning stages. If your kitty does get matted pick up a paw pad trimmer to shave them out. If you’re looking for deshedding, look into a rubber brush like the Zoom Groom, or something like the Sleek EZ.

Hey, I hate to be this person, but he should not be losing that much hair in a season. That take you are using is breaking and ripping out hair. I’m a cat sitter and I do 500 drop-in visits a year. Everyone I’ve had that has one of those take things, I’ve had to have them throw them away and just use a slicker brush because it was ruining their cats’ coats and also, causing cuts on their skin all over and causing skin irritation and the skin would bleed sometimes from using it, but they couldn’t see it so they didn’t know until I parted their cats’ hair. I’d recommend a slicker brush like the purple one that Hartz sells, though I don’t like their other products because they hard animal, because it’s the perfect brush to get the hair out but also not hurt your cats skin, as it is way more delicate than our skin even.

i can't really see it in the video, but it looks like you used a cat brush with a blade, which is why you ended up with so much fur. please don't use brushes like that because they cut off the cat's undercoat, which can cause bald spots and also disrupt its ability to regulate its body temperature

Hey, so that tool is basically a coat stripper. You can brush with it forever and it will keep taking hair out. It looks like you removed too much coat and it also damages the coat. Groomer of almost 20 years. I would recommend a fine tooth comb instead. Chris Christensen makes some good ones. That's what I use on cats. Once the undercoat is out, it will stop removing hair.
