MF DOOM was born 55 years ago today - DOOM was born Daniel Dumile in London, England and raised in Long Beach, New York. He began his career in 1998 under the name Zev Love X, one third of the trio KMD alongside his younger brother DJ Subroc. 

After Subroc was tragically killed in 1993, KMD disbanded and Dumile took a lengthy hiatus, re-emerging in the late 90s under the alias MF DOOM; a villainous persona signified by his now iconic mask. His debut album as MF DOOM, ‘Operation: Doomsday,’ was released in 1999. 
DOOM’s most prolific stretch came in the early to mid-00s, with the release of 2004’s ‘MM..FOOD,’ records under the aliases King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn, his iconic collaboration ‘Madvillainy’ with Madlib under the name Madvillain, and ‘The Mouse and the Mask’ with producer Danger Mouse. Despite living most of his life in the US, DOOM was never naturalized and in 2010 was denied re-entry after an international tour and forced to remain in England. He spent in final years in a period of heavy collaboration, crafting albums with the likes of Jneiro Jarel, Bishop Nehru, and Czarface.

In 2020, DOOM passed away as a result of medical neglect in a hospital in Leeds.

DOOM is celebrated and remembered as one of the most enigmatic, experimental, and iconic figures in Hip-Hop history, known for his intricate wordplay, technical skill, and masterful worldbuilding. He has influenced generations of MCs and remained one of the most beloved rappers of all time.
