I worked in the Hunter’s point naval shipyard for a decade. It is a superfund site. The navy used to inject plutonium into animals and bury them out there when they died. And that’s just a small portion of all the contamination that was buried out there. I remember old long abandoned building with insects anywhere. Once something spontaneously combusted underground and greenish smoke came out of the ground for several weeks. The navy said it was nothing to worry about but…

Here's a thought. Instead of turning away people at our border, give them the opportunity to fix up places like this and bring new life to abandoned communities. Bring back the old concept of homesteading grants.

A lot of old military housing and barracks are unusable because of a variety of contaminants. Especially asbestos. Mare Island is a good example.
