Somalis from Northeastern Kenya are not “Sijui.” That term was mainly used for Somalis who were born and raised in places like Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, kisumu eldoret, bungoma etc. The name came about when Somalis from Somalia came to Kenya and spoke Somali to them, but some couldn’t understand, so they would respond, “Sijui.” Meanwhile, Somalis from Northeastern Kenya generally speak Somali more than Swahili.
