@nourishingapothecary: Did you know there’s a collection of gut bacteria that regulates your oestrogen? Most people think oestrogen is controlled only by your ovaries. But there’s another player that doesn’t get talked about enough… your gut. Inside your gut is a collection of bacteria called the estrobolome. These bacteria help regulate what happens to oestrogen after your liver has processed it. When everything is working well, excess oestrogen is packaged up by the liver and eliminated through the bowel. But if that process is disrupted, some oestrogen can be reabsorbed back into the bloodstream instead. This is one of the reasons I always ask my patients about constipation, bloating, gut inflammation and overall digestive health. That doesn’t mean fixing your gut will cure hormonal conditions. The research simply doesn’t support making claims like that.
