i feel like the creature was about to kill them but they trapped him and about to kill him instead, i feel like he respected the family being able to take necessary action, and he almost died too so he let them go 😅

No. The house can never be flooded. It’s like the creature has some kind of psychic power and built the house like a giant fish container. If you watch closely, the house is actually open at the top, like a chimney. I think the creature was just testing them. There’s also another creature in the first part, the one that kills the girl. Those octopus-like sea monsters are the ones the kid said were nice. The door can actually be opened even when it’s raining, but they never open it because of the father.
