The Sword of Goujian is a bronze weapon dating back more than 2,500 years, discovered in 1965 inside a flooded tomb in China’s Hubei Province. While most bronze artifacts from this era are heavily corroded, this blade emerged from water and mud in near-perfect condition, with a sharp edge and intricate geometric patterns still intact. The sword belonged to King Goujian of the Yue Kingdom, a ruler remembered for endurance, patience, and obsession with preparation. What makes the weapon extraordinary is its construction. Modern analysis revealed a unique sulfur-rich surface treatment and a carefully balanced bronze alloy that made the blade highly resistant to oxidation. Even after centuries submerged underground, the sword was sharp enough to cut cleanly through multiple layers of paper when first tested.
