As a caregiver, don’t tell him he gets on your nerves. It was very irritating to hear the tone that you talked to him in. He’s still a human being. You were talking to him like a small child. I understand the actions seem like a young child, but you still need to talk to him like an adult.

Maybe not fill his cup so full, and don’t tell him he’s getting on your nerves. Sad

Wow. This comment section is wild. I can’t even fathom what she is going through and the amount of you criticizing her is unbelievable. Jesus Christ.

TIP: When they are sundowning and are confused bc they don't recognize their house, take them for a quick ride around the block or to get an ice cream cone from McDonald's and come back home. That always calmed my dad down. Also, never correct them. Just live in their world.

As a 24/7 dementia caregiver (spouse) for 12+years, I learned very early on to never start a sentence with "Remember...(person/place/event/whatever)?" It only made him feel his diminishment and frustrate him.

At no point did she ask for advice or anyone’s opinion. He was smiling the whole time. I hope he had a great time with his son.

This absolutely breaks my heart that he’s so young. I pray to God we find a cure for this wretched disease.

Family gets mad when I ask to keep things from my mom. I’ve been caring for her long enough to know the things that give her anxiety. They don’t approve.

I’m curious what medications he was on prior to getting dementia. Something caused this for such a young man. I’m betting a medication

As our dementia specialist said, only tell them what they need to know. Keep it simple &. Minimal.

the way you talk to him at the end is NOT gonna fly during the next stages btw. telling him to "relax" and taking his voice away by telling him to do what you say

I understand he has disease, but I think talking to him like a child is going to eventually make him angry.

Some of these comments aren’t it. They clearly haven’t lived with someone with Alzheimer’s. Being a caregiver to a family member with this is the most challenging thing to have to do. You are allowed to be and feel frustrated. It’s not easy seeing someone you loved be healthy and able to not. And it is like taking care of a kid or a toddler. We are human too with human emotions as well. We are all doing our best. Being critical and chastising someone in the caregiving position who really didn’t do anything wrong is also abuse. Do better.

This amazing woman doesn’t need tongue lashing, finger wagging, head shaking criticisms! She’s doing an amazing job as his main caregiver and sharing their experiences to the world. She’s an amazing person with an incredible and deeply emotional situation. Many would falter at less. Be kind and helpful. Be suggestive and in support in the comments. She does not need the TikTok Karens getting on their sanctimonious high horse. Encouraging words and praiseworthy commentary is what these videos merit. She is a woman doing her very best (which is truly awe inspiring) while navigating the deeply emotional toll of living through the love of her life being taken agonizingly by a disease so elusive and unique to each individual. No one has a right way. She’s doing great. 🙏🏽🩷♥️💜🫂🫂🫂🫂
