Let’s call a spade a spade!
CEOs, business owners, and HR professionals need to come together and do better for their employees. The salaries being offered to hospitality workers in Abeokuta are seriously concerning and, in many cases, simply not enough to live on.
How can you expect a housekeeper, receptionist, procurement manager, or any other staff member to give their very best when they’re being paid 45,000 or a salary that doesn’t even meet the applicable minimum wage?
We understand that running a business comes with challenges, but employees also have responsibilities, families, transportation costs, food, rent, and other basic needs. They deserve to be properly valued and fairly compensated for their work.
What is even more frustrating is that hospitality businesses continue to increase the prices of their services for customers, yet workers’ salaries often remain extremely low. If customers can pay more for services, then employees should also see meaningful improvements in their pay.
CEOs and HR professionals, please, we need to do better. Let’s create workplaces where people can earn a decent living and still have dignity outside of work.
Let’s make this conversation trend. If you’re a content creator, influencer, or just someone who cares about better working conditions, let’s talk about this in our videos and posts.
Our brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, friends, and family members deserve better. People should be able to work hard, earn fairly, and live a decent life and not become slaves to their jobs.
