Do it on top of you head - I put my hair in a high pony and then use a sock wrapping hair around and then tie ends so it looks like a bun on top of you head - works really well

i like shuffle halfway down my pillow so the sock is in that gap between my body and the bed

They worked so well for me and the curls stayed all day. Sock curls were my holy grail. And then I cut my hair short and the socks rarely stay on and the curls don’t work ☹️
