Only seven days remained before he would become a priest. Then his phone rang. "Michael... the bishop has decided to postpone your priestly ordination." He froze. "Postpone it... for how long?" "We don't know." In one sentence, twelve years of formation seemed to collapse. The church bells still rang that Sunday. His classmates became priests. One by one, they celebrated their First Mass. He stood among them... Still wearing the stole of a deacon. People began to whisper. "Maybe he committed a serious sin." "Perhaps he has been secretly suspended." "He must have done something terrible." No one knew the truth. His spiritual director simply told him, "God is not rejecting you. He is preparing you." Weeks became months. Months became years. One year... Two years... Three years... Still no ordination. His savings disappeared. His parents grew old. His mother cried every night before a statue of Our Lady. "Lord... if my son is not meant to be a priest, give him peace. But if he is, don't let him lose hope." The hardest part was not the waiting. It was watching everyone else move forward while his own life seemed to stand still. Many advised him to leave. "You've waited long enough." "Start a new life." "You've wasted your youth." But every morning, before sunrise, he entered the empty chapel. He knelt before the tabernacle. He never asked, "Lord, when will I become a priest?" Instead he prayed, "Lord... don't let me become a priest before I become the man You want me to be." Six years passed. His hair had begun to turn grey. One quiet afternoon, another phone call came. "Deacon Michael..." "The bishop has fixed the date for your priestly ordination." He didn't shout. He didn't dance. He simply knelt on the chapel floor... And cried. On the day of his ordination, the cathedral was full. His parents sat in the front row, holding hands. His mother wept through the entire Litany of the Saints. When the bishop placed his hands upon his head, the entire church fell silent. After Mass, a young seminarian approached him. "Father... how did you survive six years of waiting?" Father Michael smiled gently. "I thought God was delaying my ordination. But He was actually saving my priesthood. If He had ordained me six years earlier, I would have become a proud priest. Instead, He first taught me patience, obedience, and complete trust." Years later, people forgot how long he waited. They only remembered the holy priest he became.
