@pov_husband: I saw a guy on Youtube make a DIY Kamado smoker like this with concrete blocks so decided to try it. It did the job but I felt like the smoke was escaping too much and it was difficult to control the fire, either it'll be too hot or too cold because the charcoal or wood wouldn't light. Also if fire was too hot it toasted the bottom of the meats. My takeaway is, just invest in a good smoker. And this wasn't even that cheap. About $200 for all the materials with the plywood being the most expensive thing.
Build yourself an ugly drum smoker. Everything that comes off one of those tastes amazing. You can build them any way you want ranging from just the barrels and some vent holes ($20-$50 depending on where you get it) or you can update/modify it for better circulation and aesthetics. Make sure you get a food grade barrel otherwise you can have toxic chemicals leach into your food

the amount of toxic chemicals trapped in the concrete mix is big enough for you to just get a smoker

People need to understand that these bricks are meant for construction rather than with food. Some modern concrete blocks contain fillers or compounds that may release unpleasant or unsafe toxins when exposed to extreme direct fire.

in some cases it can explode . there’s actually some trapped air inside of that brick , if its heated up the bricks will be pressurized on the inside that makes it explode

How do you add wood to the fire? Also be very careful with materials, you will poison yourself, or choose a material that could explode at these temps. Do not recommend… better off finding an old metal tank, cleaning and polishing, and welding it if you really want your own! (Also those can be found cheaper than all these materials)

these comments have no idea what they're talking about 😅 the food sits on normal cast iron grates, never touches the concrete. the only concern, as shown in the video is that this stuff can crack, and the heat performance is kind of ass

🤦🏾♂️someone call the grill police! look you go to Walmart & buy a round charcoal grill. you can turn it into a smoker. look it up on YouTube. he spent more money on the bricks than the actual grill.
