@my_counter_assault: Stitch with @Nia Òla 💗 about the search for “safety” and “safe” people. I’ve seen so often that this is what people are searching for, but it does not exist and it makes everyrhing worse.#selfdefenseforwomen #safety
Finding safety within myself was the best thing I ever spent time working on. I know I will be knocked off base sometimes and get triggered but I know how to process that for myself and know how to come back to center. Those uncomfortable feelings are important information too. They are telling you to look closer at your situation. Ignoring them or focusing outward keeps you in those terrible situations because you chose to remain in illusion in order to avoid those uncomfortable emotions.

somebody told me i wasn't a safe person a couple of months ago and something in me immediately knew it wasn't gonna work out. too bad it took me another whole month to actually realize it

*laughs in late diagnosed autism, extreme alexithymia, anhedonia, extremely low interception, cptsd, and male socialisation.* some of us dont find it that fucking simple in this capitalist hellscape.

I had NO idea! this video has changed everything. I am too afraid to do anything so I totally stuck in the endless search for safety. I need to figure out how to adapt outside of searching for it. youre absolutely spot on

how to deal with this on the receiving end? i failed to realize how controlling they were to me because i wasn't "safe" enough, and they left me when i dissapoint them too much

thank you for being here and talking through these concepts that you know so much about.
in this video my favorite part was "practice unsafety".
and as a hint that I'm taking it I think the way that you're intending it, "practice makes permanent."
I'm still holding on to the notion that years of practice in martial arts gives a selection of physical actions that somebody can use without notice if some kind of conflict arises.

My idea of a "safe" person isn't someone who'll never make you feel uncomfortable. It's someone who will sit through the discomfort with you and allow you to take it in and reflect on it. Someone who will want your feedback to find out if they caused it inappropriately, so that they can do better if they were in the wrong, but will also not step back just to avoid discomfort when they believe they're right after seriously considering the feedback. The safest people in my life don't avoid conflict, but explore it instead.
It's really difficult to be that kind of person, because it takes recognising that nobody is a perfectly safe person, including yourself.

I know the world isn’t safe. And as a disabled and marginalized person, these facts make every day a waking nightmare. It’s why I’ve always been wishing for an end despite doing everyday things to keep going. If I’ve never been safe I know I’ll never expect to be truly ever be or stay safe. But in turn people call me a downer and depressing for stating such things. It’s…exhausting I suppose.
