also there's a lot of empty land in the deserts. why not use those instead of EXACTLY where farming is already at?

Heat go up. If make tall, heat from bottom make top sooooo hot. No want hot data center. So flat and wide.

Tell me why we don’t build them under ground?

Few reasons. A 250,000 sqft DC has approx 4000 server racks. Each one of those weighs somewhere between 1800lbs and 4200lbs.

There are data centers all over big cities just like what you are saying and you dont even realize.

Heat rises. It would be less efficient to build vertical

Holds too much hear stacked. It’s like stacking a bunch of gaming computers together they’re all going to overheat. My question is why the fuck do we need data centers all of a sudden

long skinny building has more surface area and probly radiates heat better because of it

pumping water up to that height would use even more energy and would require additional equipment and more strain on the electrical grid

ac units like central air would be also a good use for data centers.

It’s more cost effective to build 1-2 story buildings than to build 50 floor buildings

not to defend them but moving water up for cooling would be difficult and expensive I'm sure plus building up is probably more expensive as well

This is a 2 TB microSD card. Can anybody tell me why data centers need to be so big and need to be cooled by water?

YoshBgosh :
Incredibly inefficient in terms of cost and maintenance. Heat rises, water would have to be pumped upwards, skyscrapers are more expensive to construct (and have much more regulations and restrictions) There are a myriad of countless reasons why this is a bad idea.

I think them computers weigh hella, so logistics of big heavy shit too high seems a bit sketchy…. Now why data centers aren’t built in the soggy portion of Canada is beyond me tho
