This happened to me. I worked the Teacher Workdays, set up a brand new classroom, taught the 1st day of school, and then was told that the numbers were too low, and my class would be distributed to the other 5th grade teachers and I would be transfered to another school. BUT... it turned out to be the BEST thing ever! I loved and thrived at the new school! I was even selected as Teacher of the Year that school year. There are better things waiting for you. And, as someone else said, there is someone at that new school that needs you. Sometimes good things fall apart so that better things can fall together. You will be great!! Have a great year! 😊

For context, one common reason teachers get moved schools is due to enrollment and class numbers. For us, we have until September 22 to find out our final enrollment numbers. If at any point we have too few kids in a grade, they will collapse a class into the other classes and move that teacher. For us, it’s based on your seniority. But it doesn’t matter if you’ve taught for 15 years, if you’re the person with the least experience in the school, you’re the one getting moved, even if it wasn’t your grade that condensed classes.

I was told three days before kids that I was changing classrooms and I cried. I can’t imagine changing schools! I know that must be so hard and stressful! But I also know that probably means there is a student at your new school that needs you and no other teacher would do. Praying you experience peace, belonging, and purpose quickly and fiercely 💛💛

Teachers are abused and manipulated to the point where we feel this response is normal. It’s not. It’s a trauma response to garbage management. You deserve so much better.
