There are no words to explain what it feels like to watch your children change the world. 🥹 Not because they’re doing what the world expected them to do. But because they’re doing exactly what God created them to do. When Hazel and Russell were born, we were given devastating diagnoses and a future filled with uncertainty. We grieved the lives we thought they would have. We questioned why. We wondered what their future could possibly look like. But even in those earliest days, I believed their lives had a purpose. I just didn’t know what it was yet. Now, as I watch The Hazelnut Movement grow, as I stand in rooms filled with hundreds of children and share their stories, and as I speak to women who are walking through their own seasons of grief and disappointment, I’m beginning to understand. Their lives are teaching people that purpose doesn’t disappear just because life looks different than we imagined. They’re teaching children to see abilities before disabilities. They’re reminding women that God can use even the hardest parts of their stories. And they’re showing the world that a life doesn’t have to look a certain way to make an extraordinary impact. For years, I wondered why God allowed them to survive when the odds were stacked so heavily against them. And while I may never understand all of it, I get glimpses of something beautiful every time another child learns to be a friend because of their story. The grief is still real. The hard days haven’t disappeared. But seeing the good that God is bringing through their lives has given so much of our pain a new meaning. They were never here just to defy the odds. They were created on purpose, for a purpose. And maybe, just maybe, God is using two children the world once saw through the lens of their limitations to teach an entire generation how to see people differently. ❤️ ✨ Help us bring this message to more children!
