A hill I will die on is that there is no shame in behavioral euthanasia. I will argue to the death (no pun intended) with anyone who tries to argue otherwise. It’s a mercy we can give to pets and their families.

If this is him heavily medicated, I can't imagine how stressed he was without meds. Poor guy.

I will firmly stand behind BE. I have seen dogs suffer in shelters because of behavioral issues related to aggression. What is more cruel? Letting a dog suffer in a shelter who will never be adopted, never know an easy life, and become even more aggressive or released softly and lovingly from that life? I have had to make this decision after my Dog viciously attacked one of my other dogs more than once. It was the best thing for him at the time. It isn’t a easy decision at all but with the help of the Vet to understand this dog would have continued to escalate either ending in the death of my other pets or seriously hurting me. He was a collie… So it isn’t just pitt bulls.

This dog is on the highest form of sedative drug and still completly alert distressed barking and unpredictable. Sending him off with respect and peace is the best possible plan. Thank you for your kindness and service

"He needs a new owner not euthanasia" In an ideal world, yes. But there are too many dogs in shelters and until people stop supporting backyard breeders and puppy mills, shelters need to continue putting down dogs to make space for new dogs that might have a better chance of getting adopted.

this poor dog would have suffered and suffered and suffered, and who knows how many people would have been hurt along the way. behavior euthanasia is a difficult but responsible decision.

I don’t understand this. Like how does a dog reach this state? Why isn’t training considered an option? Why is euthanasia the only solution? I just don’t get it. We don’t have any of this in the country of Europe.

I was mauled by a rott we had in the house when I was pregnant. My grandmother had him on so much anxiety medication and he'd still shake, spin in circles, whine, attack dogs and people. She paid a trainer who then used a shock collar which in my opinion cemented his trauma. One day when I opened the door for him to go outside, he turned and grabbed my hand and just.. shook it. Needless to say, my hand was just.. totally shredded, and broken. He was put down a few weeks later. It could have been my newborn a few months down the road. Or a visitor, or another dog. He suffered so much for years before this incident (which wasn't his first bite). The day he was euthanized was the first day he was at peace since he was a puppy. This is why sometimes, it's necessary, and even the kinder thing to do.

What people don’t realize is that this dog is very stressed even while very medicated. He is probably constantly stressed out. How is it fair to make a dog live with that?

Oh gosh there was a split second, following the dog sniffing your feet they had a glare. Right there had you moved in a way the dog deemed a threat even though he was wagging his tail he could have attacked it would have been quick. They are doing the right thing I know nothing about animal/dogs behavior but that dog in the wrong hands is incredibly dangerous
