Bc of ur videos, I purchased the Weighty Words books 1 & 2 for my dad. He has end stage Parkinson’s & dementia, but he remembers & treasures his time as an elementary school teacher. He loves the Weighty Words stories & talks about them all the time. Thank you… to you, Mrs. Yates, the authors & illustrators 🥲

My 4th grade teacher would take role by having us say our last names in alphabetical order. She would start us off by saying, “Good morning class. Good morning, Chris …” and he would respond with his last name (Chris’ last name was the first alphabetically) and we’d then each follow him by shouting out our own last name. To this day I can recite everybody’s last name in my class from when I was 9. I am now 51.

We had to memorize the Magnificat in Latin in 5th grade for our Christmas pageant, and I can still recite it. I can also remember the preposition song we had to sing in English. But don’t ask me why I walked into this room or what I ate yesterday. 😭

I work with college students and one time I was discussing how we shouldn’t end sentences with prepositions. One of them broke out in a song he learned in 4th or 5th grade about prepositions, sang it all the way through, it was amazing

Thank you for posting these updates. I’ve been teaching for 16 years, but this will be my first year teaching 7th grade ELA. Mrs. Yates and her impact on you have inspired me so much. I purchased the Weighty Words book and have the second on my Amazon wishlist. I plan to also use classic poetry for attendance and some kind of chant for the end of class. ❤️Please continue to share these stories- it makes my teacher heart so happy when I hear about students being affected so much by their teachers. ☺️
